The Breath of the Stars
By Kelly Jarvis
When the human world is weary
and rimed with frosty, dark, despair,
when the sounds of silence
linger lifeless in the cloistered air, go:
wander widely in the wilderness where
light slants languid through the leaves.
Hear the whispered hush of herons’ wings
as they soar through blossoming trees. Push your pen
across sheets of paper to score the sweep
of the song birds’ call. Write the velvet strength
of the wild violets crawling up the old stone wall.
Watch the azure ink of evening spill smoothly
over the land until the stars scatter themselves
on the shore of the sky and you bloom
with the peace of eternity.
