Edelweiss

By Ruchi Acharya

The final hours are darkening around me,

the sanctimony of my purity have been shaken,

Amidst the hush and stillness of eve

With ghostly sound the trust placed in my heart has been taken.

Hope lingers that fragile bloom in the spring

It sprinkles among the melancholy weeds

Napping under the summer shadow of a tree,

I dream about sipping Riesling somewhere in Paris

Reading Austen’s scripts and weaving unforgettable moments about you and me.

Amidst the lush greenery of May's vast expanse,

I'll hold dear the memories we made, a fresh new chance.

A folded paper boat from a weekend's crafty class,

I'll release it to the river, free from my thoughts and past.

I see the expanse, a blanket of white fleece stretching to the horizon,

Where hope's edelweiss blooms, shining and glowing, a beacon.

Through dark days and despair, they sway on the edge of cliffs, in the snow.

Edelweiss, you bloom and glow like a solitary reaper’s woe.
