Flower
By Tanya Fenkell
I want to paint this flower,
make you fall
into its centre,
feel its velvet depths,
ludicrous softness, the
headiness of scent,
blooming as if
it’s normal
to explode all restraint,
resonate with colour,
clamour, break out
that indecently.
(Dripping iris, rose in the rain.)
Perfumed and careless, this
flower vibrates in a reckless palette,
throws herself open,
uninhibited, inside out and
surrendering, exuberant
for a moment and
then, wilted,
gone.
My painted flower,
pale echo, will
remain.
