I’m Thinking of Ending Things

By B. Elae

I.

I'm thinking of ending things…

Not with myself, but with you

I've been crying in spells,

enough to make a sweater out of tissue

I ripped your jackets from the closet today

while you were away at work

Screaming matches are louder than

an 808, and every part of me hurts

I'm thinking of ending things

You can tell everyone however you please

Our words stabbed the heart, but now I'm busted at the knees

I can't tell who's more deadly out of us two

We've windows still broken from the stones we threw

I'm thinking of ending things…

I recite the lines over in my mind,

and I've placed the ring back in the drawer

It's never been this bad before

Resentment lives in our gums,

and foreclosure in our minds

I'm thinking of ending things...

and I mean it this time.
