These reconfigured images are meant to bring up questions regarding the objectification of female Identities. In this case, my figures are portrayed “in the dark” as a way to symbolize and question notions of feminine mystic at night, each illuminated by light bulbs and moons that signify psychological examination of women.
Kathy Bruce
Kathy Bruce’s collages explore archetypal female and mythological forms within the context of poetry, literature and the natural environment. She received an M.F.A from Yale University School of Art and a certificate from The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts USA. Ms. Bruce is the recipient of numerous grants and awards including a Fulbright Hayes Senior Scholarship Grant for Lecturing and Research in Puno Peru anda Pollock-Krasner Foundation Fellowship.
She has exhibited in the US, UK and internationally including Senegal, Taiwan, France, Denmark, Peru and Canada. Her work has appeared in Three Rooms Press, The Vassar Review, Alchemy Literary Magazine, Open Minds Quarterly Journal, The Perch, Yale University School of Medicine, The New Southern Fugitives, Up the Staircase Quarterly, The Ignition literary Journal, The Variant Literature, Landlocked Literary Magazine, The Rejoiner, The Brooklyn Review, Twyckenham Notes, The Porter House Review, Pushing Out the Boat, and The National Women’s History Museum Journal.
