Beasts
by Vickie Amiralis
Under the skirt boards
Lay bones pure white
Wishing for glory
A rebirth tonight.
It grasps at some faith
From the rats running past
Gone the eve of the death
Still, an answer here fast.
The heart starts to beat
The blood rushes through
Life springs to this figure
What was it and who?
The nerves are reacting
Bones suddenly jolt
A pitching loud scream
Cries out from its throat.
A crazed look in its eyes
Black pupils grow large
Clench tight two fists
Ready to barge.
Tears through the wood planks
Stands up like a King
Beware on this eve
For no fight will you win.
Scratches off splinters
Flicks off the leeches
Deep breath and a gulp
It suddenly screeches.
“Arise now all beasts
You've lived long in the shadows
The time has now come
To meet in the meadows!”
With a thunderous rumble
The call definitely heard
Graves crumble to pieces
As all corpses stirred
They craze through the city
Plough through the crowds
Kick plastic, pink, pumpkins
Right up to the clouds
Escaping the buildings
They cruise on some deer
Ask sparrows for seeds
“We've had none for a year!”
The seeds they do bury
Under their skins
By the time they arrive
Flowers bloom from their chins.
A garden has grown
On each single beast.
Turning the meadows
Into a fantastical feast!
For all crawling in soil
And buzzing in air
A magical land
Sits brightly with flair.
The beasts settle at once
In their rose fragrant beds
Raising sweet nectar
To their own beastly heads.
All joined in a bliss
Resettled at last
With thanks to the faith
Of the rats running past.
