The Possibility of You
By George J. Cardy
I want you to haunt me,
Run your footsteps down my spine,
Ring the tattoo of your heartbeats
That remember you as mine,
(Which is better than forgetting;
And be healed, they say, with Time.)
I want you to haunt me,
With the wails, you never cried;
With the flicker, shadow dances
I once felt you dance inside;
I’ll imagine hallway footsteps -
Rattle chains I’ve had to hide.
I want you to haunt me,
Just the way you always do,
As the dates pass by, remembered,
Though the memories made were few,
I shall carry close the haunting
Possibilities of you.
