Mary Mary

Paul Ashton

40 x 50 cm

“I am a British artist concerned with the interplay between abstraction and ideas. The unknown and known.
This work "Mary Mary "is represented here as a single work yet forms part of a larger groups of works around The Mother Archetype which is the basis for another work,”Great MOTHERS” completed as part of his recently completed MA study.
Using various material combinations ,trusted technique and the opportunity for chaos, I wish to bring forth an additional perspective through addressing character and or beauty, subjected to anarchic interjection.
Perhaps The “Mary" here is contrary: both saved and lost,simultaineously..

“My practice is cyclical ,my paintings concern beauty and character and play against ideas around myth and archetype

I’m currently creating a “large work” entitled GREAT MOTHERS which further considers identity and psyche.

This work will be completed in June and Is likely to be shown in its entirety.

I take the rigour of academic thought, the artisanal skill and the draughtsman's measure to make a contemporary/traditional version of beauty/character and break them down to create a new perspective…using abstraction through choice in material and finish.”
