Storm Dennis and the Cherry Tree
By Lorraine Whelan
The wind is howling – it’s noise and the windows shake.
I pity the poor cherry tree its tiny buds pink –
attempting to bloom in the weather’s crazy wake.
The branches sway unbreaking but taken to the brink –
rain buckets against the window and drowns my sight –
but just as sudden there is blue sky and I pause to think
how the forces of nature fight
among themselves for power
and prove their might
while a young tree only wants to exist and flower.
